The Otherside of Craigslist: Andrew
My work, “The Other Side of Craigslist,” explores human interaction in the strangest of ways. Typically people correlate people from craigslist with being creepy or the stereotypical “weirdo,” however I challenge that opinion through my work. I push the limits of my own comfortability and go meet people I spoke to from craigslist at different locations. Then I photograph them and film our interactions together. Sometimes, I get bored of just being myself and it is nice to be in someone else's headspace for a moment and even just talking to stranger can be therapeutic. Everyone deals with loneliness and isolation, and these small and crazy interactions can show you things and bring out new things you never even considered. Also, you can get a lot from someone's facial expression, their tone and the way they carry themselves and seeing that through video conveys an emotion people can relate to. Then they realize that there is this other side to people from craigslist. They see the humanity in them and the ability to relate to them, which can be comforting and makes you feel less alone in the world.
